Wrapping up 1 Corinthians

I babysat last night, and finished 1 Corinthians... EARLY! :) 1 Corinthians really spoke to me. There is a lot of personal reflection in this post!

In 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 Paul is writing about people who sinned and how they were punished, then he says 12So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! 13No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
I believe this to be very true. I do not think that God will tempt us beyond what we can handle. Now, I have gotten into many debates/conversations about Does God tempt us? or Does God give us what we need to get through the temptation? Either way, He will always provide a way out! I love my God! It is so comforting to know these truths, that God will always be by my side.

1 Corinthians 11:13-16 was very interesting to me. Paul stated that for a man to have long hair is disgraceful, but it is glorious for a woman to have long hair. I do not know if I should read more into that or consider it as just a message to Corinth.

I have received communion many times at church. But reading 1 Continthians 11:23-26 makes the meaning of it all so real. I read about it in Matthew the other day. Reading it again truly put EVEN MORE emphasis on the importance of communion. I am so thankful for the life that I am able to have through Christ.

1 Corinthians 12 is a chapter that I must memorize. This chapter has come up countless items in conversation and I have to fumble through my Bible. I at least need to memorize that spiritual gifts = 1 Corinthians 12.

I love Paul's illustration in 1 Corinthians 12:15-21. "But in fact God has arranged the parts of the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be." vs. 18

1. I love how spec ally handcrafted by God I am. It makes me feel so undeniably beautiful and important.
2. I love the illustration this is towards how we are all individually unique to the church and Kingdom of God!

When I read 1 Corinthians 13:11, I immediately thought about how this related to becoming a Christian. I know that for me, my life was literally one way one day, and the polar opposite the next. I had a shopping problem...addiction, and the next day and ever since, I have little to no interest in shopping. I listened to rap and rock, and I had no interest in it the next day. I wanted to listen to 91.9 and 106.9 and praise God constantly!

The talk in 1 Corinthians 14 about tongues confused me.

1 Corinthians 15:20-21 is so true. I read it several times to truly let it sink in. I know that Christ has risen from the grave, but I never want to take that for granite. I think that it is so easy to just shrug it off our shoulders Christ died and rose again - therefore I can live without sin, and go into heaven free of cost. So, I can still do (fill in the blank). But, It is so much more important. There is so much more to it. I never want to take it for granite.

1 Corinthians 15:33 truly spoke to me. I am in a situation, and everything I read lately is along those lines, screaming at me that I am making a mistake.

I just loved 1 Corinthians 15:58. "Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."

Have a wonderful day!

  1. I Corinthians 10:12-13 thanks for posting that! I really love to revisit truths like that--where God is always there and will always provide a way out. Currently I am really working on repenting and working through things spiritually to grow closer to Him and He has really proven Himself strong to give me a way out and a way to transform my thinking, actions and prayer life. Keep it up! You are doing great and continue to encourage me!
